UPDATE (January 2026): Great news! The vExpert 2026 application deadline has been officially extended to February 2, 2026. If you thought you missed the window, you still have time to submit your application. Read on to see how I can help you get your application ready.
As we approach the end of the year, two things are certain: the holidays are coming, and the vExpert 2026 application season is upon us.
I recently looked back at my digital badge collection and realized I have been part of this program for 7 consecutive years. More importantly, for the last 5 years, I have had the distinct privilege of serving as a vExpert PRO, acting as a mentor to new applicants. Also, I got to the first time Subprogram last year – vExpert VCF 2025

I have seen this community from every angle—as a nervous first-time applicant, as a long-time contributor, and as a mentor reviewing applications. If you are on the fence about applying this year, I want to share why this program matters and how I can help you get in.
Why I Keep Coming Back (The 7-Year Journey)
People often ask, “Is it worth the effort to apply every year?”
My answer is always a resounding YES.
Being a vExpert isn’t just about the software licenses (Free home lab licenses are fantastic) or the cool swag. It is about the recognition and the network.
Over the last 7 years, this title has opened doors to conversations, career growth, and a global network of smart, passionate professionals who are always willing to help. It validates your expertise to employers and clients, showing that you do not just use the technology—you give back to the community that supports it.
The View from a vExpert PRO: You Are Probably Ready
As a vExpert PRO for the last 5 years, I have mentored countless IT professionals through the application process. The number one barrier I see isn’t a lack of technical skill—it is Imposter Syndrome.
I hear this all the time:
- “I only wrote 4 blog posts this year.”
- “I don’t have a massive following.”
- “I just answer questions on Reddit/Discord, I don’t speak at conferences.”
Here is the secret: The vExpert program awards contribution, not just fame.
If you have helped others solve problems, shared a script on GitHub, organized a VMUG, or wrote deep-dive articles (even just a few!), spoken in a community event – you are exactly who this program is looking for.
As recently highlighted in the official vExpert blog, it is never too late. A “Q4 sprint” of quality content can be the deciding factor in your application.
Let Me Help You (Yes, You!)
This is the part where I put on my “PRO” hat.
The vExpert PRO program exists specifically to help people like you navigate the application. We are here to review your content, help you word your submission, and ensure you are not underselling your contributions.
I am opening my inbox to anyone who wants to apply for the vExpert 2026 award.
